That's why we took a brief hiatus, but I'm making it a goal to come back and do a lot more podcasting in 2020, a new decade. I figured I'm really going to make this a priority and let's really get out there, really try to have a lot more podcast episodes and things like that. I've gotten a lot of emails from some listeners asking, hey, when are you going to have more? I was listening and I really like it.
That was another motivation. Definitely keep your emails coming if you have ideas or things that you'd like to hear about. That helps me know what you'd like to learn more or discuss. Today's cool because I actually have a guest that's going to hop on here.
I've got a new podcast set up for Christmas, a little gift to myself. I'm able to easily phone call people in. That's super fun because it's not super fun to talk to yourself into a microphone while your cat is staring at you. But hey, now I can bring somebody else in, which is awesome.
I'm going to bring her on right now and then we're going to tell you what we're going to talk about. You probably know what we're going to talk about though because you looked at the topic. I'm bringing on a really good friend of mine. We actually went to undergrad together when we were in nursing school.
This is Carrie Evitz, though. She's a board certified nurse practitioner and the owner of Pure Beauty and Wellness. Here's Carrie. Hi, Carrie.
Hi, Kyle. Hi, everybody. Doesn't that make you feel special when we have the applause going on behind here? Yeah, thank you.
Make me feel safe. You like the extra fancy? So we all know. Carrie, you and I talk a lot about this and we are going to talk about Groupon aesthetic services and what we think about them and what some of the misconceptions are.
I think you and I in our discussions that we have pretty frequently, we were actually two people who've used Groupon very openly and still do to grow our business, right? That's correct. I think that's probably before we start. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
What's your business's like? How you got started? Yeah, so you already introduced myself. So thank you for that.
Carrie Evitz, my practitioner, board certified with AMTC. And I opened Pure Beauty and Wellness on our back in 2015 at that time it was a side gig. And then back then fast forward to 2017. And I decided to take my part time practice and make it full time.
So the past two and a half years have been dedicated 100% of my professional development toward aesthetics. So towards anything, you do and Wellness related in and cosmetology or aesthetic medicine and wellness like vitamin therapy or place of plasma. And every conference that I attend to, I just learn so much more and it gives me even more excited about this journey. Now when it comes to Groupon, I was hesitant to use Groupon in the beginning as a provider or as a business on Groupon.
And my representative, his name is Ian and it took him two months to finally get me to sign on board. I had discussed this potential agreement with many other business colleagues and mine, people that I hold valuable. And I had helped make important decisions in my business. So I thought, well, why not?
Let's give it a shot. If it doesn't work, I can just discontinue it. And it has provided me with so much growth with really great patients. I didn't even know that I was aware.
They were aware I was in the area. The area that I'm in is not very commonly used for the aesthetic, cosmetic services. This is specifically for vitamin or for facial injections like Botox or ZMN or Dysport, facial billers. It really is in a tap market overgrown in my area.
And so people found me through Groupon and they were super excited that someone was located in Cancos Shores or on the East Side of Southeast, Michigan, Southeast Detroit, Metro Suburb. Yeah, so those of you who are not from where we're in Metro Detroit. So I'm in Plymouth, which is kind of more West Side carries East Side. And you know, we're about 45 minutes to an hour away on a bad traffic day.
So it's an even where I'm at in Plymouth. There's aesthetics around there, but we're not like there's an area around us like Birmingham or Troy that's huge for aesthetic and plastic surgery and stuff. So it's a little harder, I think, for places for people like us who are in these little smaller communities to kind of get the word out that we're there. What made you have a first cell?
Like what how did I was concerned with the type of clientele that it could bring? I myself didn't use Groupon very much. I had dabbled with it and then kind of forgot about it. So when someone sought me out from the Groupon Department and from the Department of the Static, he promised me, and this is the summer of 2018, so it's been about a year and a half that they had redeveloped their whole medical aesthetics and facial aesthetics and all this.
And it's a much different than how it was before. Thank you for saying that. Yeah, so real quick, real quick. So this is how Kerry and I are too.
We'll probably each other off about 24 times each during this whole thing. So back, like even like when I kind of first started doing this a lot full time, you know, Groupon per se Botox and really to let me interject here like Groupon's not paying us to do this. We're just talking about this because it still becomes a hot topic and some of our little chat groups were in on Instagram and Facebook about using Groupon and Kerry and I are kind of the ad ducks that we have a different opinion than a lot of others, but that's okay. It's going to be different.
But way back, it's really kind of recent, but say three years ago, two years ago, even Groupon used to really undercut the price of Botox where it was like you were potentially even losing money based on because we all know how Groupon works, Groupon charge is something and then they do take a portion of the fee that's paid by the consumer because that's how they make money and that's how they profit as a member. So, you know, they're kind of have changed and I think you would agree that you know they're pricing, they're not undercutting it per se. They're really making it more of like a new client or introductory offer, wouldn't you say? Right.
It's not trying to make it valuable so that possibly it's affordable to a wider variety of people. So many of my clients that found me through Groupon were misled and said, Oh, I used to have to spend $1,000 or some, you know, obscene amount because the person that they were seeing would charge them for the entire one of the users or not. And so they would pay for the entire violin and the rest is thrown away. So, yeah, aesthetics has come a long way since it first presented itself.
And so that way Groupon had evolved over time as well. Yeah, and I think they wanted the consumer also to not be so stick or shocked because a lot of the times know these injectables, they're not meant to be a one and done treatment. I mean, they carry out the same as me, a lot of my clients. They're long term clients now who turn into friends and things like that.
I mean, we have an ongoing relationship that's probably one of the things I know we both love the most about the job is it's you really build a relationship with these clients. And we and Groupon, I think kind of caught wind that a lot of injectors or aesthetic and providers were kind of wanting to back off because it was promoting them to actually, you know, kind of hop around from place to place just to kind of get a good deal. So they kind of adjusted recently, a lot of their pricing structure and it kind of it happens slowly. But it's come to a point where it's not a huge price jump, you know, when the client does return for that second visit, you know, they get that initial first kind of deal, you know, Groupon deal for their first visit for trying out and then they, you know, when they return in three months for their next appointment.
You know, it's not a huge sticker shack for them to keep up with these treatments. It is affordable and there's a way for them to kind of budget for it. Would you agree? Yeah, I totally agree.
And then one thing that has worked with me, one time, initially, Groupon, I, you know, I may try to inform those clients that they just bring clients only and then they return. They would qualify for future Groupon. However, I do have specials that usually quarterly. I change my specials per season.
And then I also have a referral program. So I encourage my clients to refer me new clients if they're happy with their work. So what's better than a referral? And that's a biggest compliment that we can get.
And I want to be Groupon. Yeah, a lot of Groupon clients, not only return, they have referred a plethora of clients to me and they would have never found me if it wasn't for that initial connection, which happened to be through Groupon. Right. And, you know, I offer that promotion to all new clients.
And then they are, they are allowed to sell to the world program. And so when they refer me new clients and then the client comes and has a treatment, then they get a discount offer, you know, future visit because we have to abide by hip loss, right? Right. No one can know when they're in my office or in my chair.
And I take it down very seriously. However, if the client decides that they're happy with their care and they refer that's not breaking apart from our standpoint. And that's the biggest compliment we can have. Yeah.
Yeah. But yeah, referrals are huge. And that's a good way to build clients. And it's, I mean, because we do have people listening to podcast to our consumers and then also people who are injectors are looking at getting into injecting.
And it's, you know, Groupon is really, it's a marketing standpoint. I got statistics from ours. Most recent ones I have are from Q2 or Q3 last year. But I mean, one of my offers, I had, you know, 419,000, almost, you know, under half a million, you know, exposures of my offer for one particular offer.
You know, for you or I think from a business standpoint, that kind of exposure would be huge, you know, even the click through to site or maybe that interested in the despot treatment or the rest of the treatment that we're offering on Groupon, but they might be interested in something else that we have, you know, for me, it might be cool sculpting. I see, Hey, you have glue sculpting. Oh my gosh, that's awesome. You know, I've been looking for that.
And then it brings up a great point, actually, that I'd like to delve into a little bit further. Many people see the company name on Groupon, but then they call and they want to talk to me and ask about other questions for other procedures or services that aren't even on Groupon. So again, it's all about marketing exposure, you know, and the conversation is so important. And a lot of time, which is important because you'll see a lot of posts out there and I'm not going to, I don't want to call anybody out.
I don't like to do it. But there's posts that you'll see out there on our Instagram people post things and everything. It's funny. And they're like, Oh, Groupon Botox is a good idea until your eyebrows at your boob.
I'm going to say that. So I don't have to like call this an explicit podcast or something. But it's not, it's not that like don't look at Groupon like that. I guess is my message here.
I know we've talked about that. Like you still have to do your due diligence when you're using Groupon. I mean, I do it even if I'm going to check out a restaurant, you know, I'm going to make sure the restaurant and kind of see what the reviews are. I'm going to read the reviews before I buy it.
But I might still use Groupon just to check them out for that first time. I mean, I use it. It's a good way to try places out. And a lot of times I do buy them for these restaurants or for anything, you know, and then I keep going back.
I'm a continuing patron of that place, you know, because of the Groupon. But you know, it shouldn't Groupon. I guess shouldn't come with the stigma of because you use it. You're going to get a subpar service.
And I think that sometimes there is a little bit of that message out there. I don't know why people think it's that at the end of the day. It's a marketing. It's all about marketing.
That's used and it shouldn't necessarily come with this negative stigma. I mean, people that use Groupon come from all walks of life and socioeconomic status. I mean, down from the person who saves there. Every little penny to come in and get their quarterly, this poor treatment to the person who could doesn't really matter.
You know, they all use Groupon and it's perfectly fine. It's another way to get clients in and meet new clients and ways to expand. And it's just know that if you're listening, I guess my message is my message here for you today is that it shouldn't come with this negative stigma. There's good injectors out there using Groupon.
And if you're an injector and you're good and you want to get your word out, it's okay to use it. It's just learning how to harness it and learning how to build that rapport with your clients. So you kind of develop that ongoing relationship. Correct.
Absolutely. But it's you know, it's you hear a lot about it. You hear it. I want to say bashed, but I guess bashed a little bit.
I don't know why. I don't know if it's out of jealousy or just misconception. I mean, my group on price. I was back in the day.
They did revamp their policies and protocols. And what told me on it, is that I started collaborating with a day spa and they did it. And I'm speaking personally with the owner. She said, I took in X amount of dollars.
And this is a place that specializes in massage, which are nowhere near the cost percentage of what we're doing with these injectables. So their prescription medications are very expensive. So I thought, well, that I think having that kind of increased market and flow of traffic to her spot. Why not at least try it?
And if it doesn't work, at least you say, well, I tried it. It wasn't for me. And you move on. Right.
Like I was looking at my offer right now and I'll, you know, fold this, go look at my group on if you want to Detroit static company. We have 146 practically five star reviews because the two gals that work with me that take the group on clients are frickin phenomenal injectors. And I see some group on clients as well. My schedule doesn't always allow for it because I'm busy, but it's, you know, I take them as well.
And it's, but I have fantastic flipping people who take them, you know, and our normal price for this port is $4 a unit. Now, if you listen to my Discord Botox, the only now there's JUVO, you know, out there. I said it's fancy because it's kind of spelled fancy. Yeah, she's kind of a mekaroo and a little bit of a bread, but baguette.
But, you know, I am just a derailing train right now. This port are, you know, my normal price is $4 a unit. My group on price is $3.58 a unit when you do the math. Like it's a little bit of a discount.
It's the person in the door. They get, Hey, thanks for trying us out kind of special. Again, new clients only. You're only allowed to buy one group on and use one group on at our office, whether it's for, you know, you export a restaurant or the chemical peels we offer.
It's a one time only group on things. So once you've used one of them, you can't use another one at our office. But like you said, it gets you on our list at my office too. You get, you know, emails from when we have specials if you choose to enroll in that and it, you know, you become hopefully a long term client.
But it's not a huge undercut. You know, for me, I mean, like I said, $4 a unit right now, my price is $3.50 a unit if you're on the group on special and sometimes grand might have like a little extra promo going on, but I don't control that and that's their own thing. But then I'm really proud to and I know, Carrie, you're, you're in the same kind of, you know, thing is me, you know, we're now part of like the best of group on for Metro Detroit, which is really cool. And again, that just shows the quality that we, we provide, I think, at our office.
Yeah, I would think about their reviews, like reviews from Facebook or some other reviews. I'm not sure Google's like this, but there's some, but they just, anyone can go on there and leave your review. And it's almost impossible to get rid of a negative review. Oh, yeah, there's a company out there that rhymes with kelp that if you get a negative review from them, you know, good luck getting rid of it.
It's, you practically have to involve Congress and multiple attorneys, but. But with group on other reviewers, almost like give a review are verified that they had actually purchased that group on. So you can't have somebody give a review that didn't actually receive the treatment. Where Facebook, anybody can log into Facebook.
Again, I'm not sure how Google is, but anyone can leave your review and how you prove that it was a legitimate treated client or just some, you know, some of the street. You really don't know. But that's the one thing that I like about some of these sites like group on is that they're verified clients and that were verified purchases and with. Right.
They have to have redeemed it in order to leave a review, which is kind of nice. And then it also tells you to how often the person leaves review, like I'm looking at some of ours and it's, and then they get labeled like a helpful reviewer. Right. You know, and it says, you know, oh, she's left two reviews.
This person's left. She's 32 review. You know, wow, 135 reviews. We had one last.
She's really good reviewer. It's like a full time job, but. But, you know, it really has a lot of things to it that also, yeah, as a consumer, I like it because you can see like, you know, was it just, you know, because of course there's always going to be times where somebody doesn't have an optimal experience anywhere. And you can kind of see, you know, okay, maybe it's not bad, but you know, they've gone other places 135 times and it looks like it's good.
So, you know, it's nice. You know, we have 146 reviews and we're pretty much a five star rating. 91% of our reviews at my office are for this particular offer are, you know, five star reviews, which is incredible. You know, and I'm right behind you.
My coffee ratio with a promotion. You're buying it. Similar to the actual cost of the court, the reviews are phenomenal. Close to five star.
I just got awarded with that through by a couple weeks ago. Which I'm proud of. I mean, some people are again back to that post. I'm like, grind my gears, obviously, about this whole, you know, get group on Botox and your eyebrows are at your waist or whatever.
Obviously, that's really. I should talk to a therapist about it, but I'm proud of it. You know, I'm proud that we're being that I'm recognized or recognized that we are good providers and our office provides a spectacular service. And it's perfectly fine that clients came to us through that avenue.
I'm glad you use it. It's again, you and I use it as consumers. I was talking earlier today and you were using a group on to take your kids somewhere, you know, to go. Yeah, we're trying to help.
I used one a couple weeks ago for a hibachi restaurant, you know, but it's. Yeah, this is much fun. My child has a double of the people. Right.
Right. It's there. And you'll probably go back to that place now too. I would imagine.
Yeah, I would. So, yeah, I guess that's what it's. If you're, I guess the takeaway here because it's been, we've been all over the place, but if you have ever spent any time with Carrie and I together, it's almost things are. The message is it's if you're the consumer, definitely use Group on if you want to, but please do your due diligence and check the person out and vet them for yourself.
I'm more concerned, I guess, from an injector standpoint about all these, you know, it seems like lately the trend is, you know, anybody feels like they can do this to make a bazillion dollars and you and I both know that one you don't make a bazillion dollars when you start off doing it. Because it takes a very expensive investment. I was adding up how much I've spent for myself for my training recently. And I was, I could own a very like, own a nice Tesla probably for what I spent for training for myself.
I think it's the same way. A really nice Tesla. But it, you know, vet vet the place out vet the injector, you know, learn about them just like you would anything else. And if you're a person who's launching a business or maybe moving into a new area and you don't know how to kind of break in, you know, consider it and see if it works for you.
You know, you're gonna have to get all of a representative there and it'll sign you one, but you know, they're not there to like undercut this crazy anymore. It really is coming more from the approach of it's kind of like an introductory offer. Try the place out and then really it's on the place to build that relationship and maintain that client and hopefully you find one or you are one like carrying IR and maintain clients and they say we have a fantastic retention rate with our group on clients and they keep coming in because they like our office and it's relaxed and it's chill and it's fun and it's not, I don't like to say it's not sterile because it is, we're sterile, but it's, it's not like setting, it's relaxing, there's couches, there's music, it's laid back, it's not, you know, it's comfortable, homey. But yeah, so yeah, I don't know any of the last minute thoughts.
The last thing, just to review back on rewinding back to that, just put the due diligence and check out this information because, you know, there is some black market, some people are injecting that shit in the beat. Right, I know that's, we're going to be battling that forever though. Yeah, the clinicians, you know, our license is certified and all this stuff is public knowledge, you just have to learn how to use this. Call their office maybe before you buy the group on, you know, call their office and touch base with them and just ask some questions and you'll see, you know, see what you think and you know, all the time.
You know, our office and I know Carrie the same way, we're happy to talk to people on the phone before they understand it's a treatment and you might want some information before you divulge into it, you know, so it's perfectly fine to call the office and ask questions and get your questions answered before you know, partaking something. I totally agree. Yeah. But so yeah, I think that's about it.
Anything else? So yeah, the message, the message here. Well, thank you. The message here is it's good.
It's, it's fine thing. Just learn how to use it. Harness those relationships. If you do choose to, if you're a provider and you're going to do it.
It is a fantastic marketing thing. They have really good customer support and only for the consumer, but for us as the providers, well, I have, I think good luck. It's, you know, they're for support. You know, you are a customer to them as well.
But yeah, you know, definitely it's in if you're the consumer, like we've said, probably a hundred times now do your due diligence, check the place out before you choose to go with them. But, you know, no, your eyebrows are not going to end up at your knees if you choose to get any kind of, you know, desport or Botox, the Omen Jivot treatment through that. And I'll tell you as long as you check out the provider and tell them what your goals are to, you know, make sure like we've talked about in other podcasts, you know, if you're going in as the consumer, if you're a job to tell, you know, to talk to the provider, you know, about what you want and make sure you clearly understand expectations. I carry an eye, can tell you from a provider standpoint, we can't always give you what you want and a good provider should should openly tell you that and have open dialogue with you.
I'm very transparent with my clients. I know Carrie is too. And I'll tell you if it's something that we can't do. I'm not going to make you a promise that I can't deliver.
So yeah, check them out. And that's that. But thank you so much, Carrie, for joining us. We'll give her another big here.
That was fun. I like not having to talk to myself. It's kind of... I enjoyed it.
