The project retained the machine's solid frame, motion system, exchange table, CNC, automatic sheet loading, and familiar operator workflow instead of replacing the complete production platform.Key points:l Engineers removed the original CO2 optical path and installed a 12kW fiber source, fiber-compatible cutting head, water chiller, and the electrical and safety interfaces required for the new system.l Routing the high-power fiber cable through the existing drag chain was a major mechanical challenge. The cable had to be protected from tight bends, twisting, abrasion, and excessive movement.l The integration layer mapped ready signals, chiller faults, laser permissions, emergency stops, and safety interlocks into the original AMADA alarm circuits, preserving the familiar CNC workflow.l The full project took nine days: five days for removal and hardware installation, three days for signal integration, software testing, and commissioning, and one day for operator training.l Commissioning included a maximum test on 32mm carbon steel. The customer's normal 8-16mm carbon-steel range showed the practical benefit of higher cutting performance while retaining automatic loading.The larger message is that a CO2-to-fiber retrofit is a complete engineering project, not a simple source swap. Success depends on machine condition, power matching, fiber routing, cooling, CNC alarm mapping, safety logic, testing, and training.
