What's up, everyone? Welcome back to the Daily PFAV. This is episode 101 for Tuesday, July 17th, 2018 It's 10.54 p.m. Here on the East Coast and I am just back from shooting the East Pittsburgh Council meeting this evening Because tonight was the first time that members of East Pittsburgh Council and the mayor were in a public forum since the Antoine Rose shooting one month ago And if you've been listening to my podcast or following my photo journalism that I do for the newspaper I had spent five nights shooting all of those protests.

Well tonight was now another opportunity to go out and shoot the council meeting and All of the angry residents that were there and then whatever the protests were going to be that followed and so I showed up Early to the council meeting and they ushered us inside to this big gymnasium because I guess they had to have it at a bigger Location because of the crowd size that they were expecting and you can imagine they had their council meeting and then when they opened it up to the Public discussion point of the meeting one by one angry residents all got there three minutes in front of the microphone to You know vocalize their anger their frustration with the police some of them were very articulate and very well spoken to others We're very graphic and angry as you could imagine at this type of a forum and After about 90 minutes or so the temperature inside of this old gymnasium It had to be 90 plus degrees and I could just feel the sweat dripping off of me And so I needed to get out of that room And so I kind of went outside into the parking lot for a few minutes just to you know get some cool fresh air While everyone was inside all the other photographers were there all of the major news stations were there covering it and all of their cameras and everything and reporters were inside and so I went outside into the parking lot and I could see 10 feet in front of me a Police officer was playing on the playground with a young boy whose mother was inside of the council meeting and the two of them I swear it was like watching best friends or you know older brother younger brother They had a very amazing and magical bond and so I pulled out my camera and I started snapping pictures of the two of them playing together on a playground While just a few feet away Tensions and emotions were just overflowing inside over this Police shooting of this young African-American boy one month ago. So to me it was a to me that was the story right I mean, yeah, I get it angry people inside yelling at the council that's news and everything like that But I was the only photographer outside capturing to me What is this what was the real story of the night? And so I took those pictures and then the council meeting ended and then the protesters came outside into the parking lot They did their different formations someone grabbed the microphone. They started with all the chance again They didn't march anywhere that lasted maybe a half hour or 45 minutes And then I left and came home to edit my pictures and sure enough I got a I got a great one of this officer and this young boy playing on the playground together threw it up on the Facebook Twitter and Instagram So if you follow me there, you guys might want to check that out Twitter as usual not so much on the interaction with it Instagram a few dozen But I got to tell you this on Facebook This is in the midst of going a little bit viral because in the last hour since I posted this my phone will not stop beeping with Facebook alerts It's already at a hundred and forty likes forty seven people have shared this and Bunch of people have already tagged the big three local news stations here in Pittsburgh and a bunch of people have tagged CNN and Fox News And of course, they're saying, you know, this is this is the picture and this is a story that won't make the news You know, so I don't know.

We'll see what happens I mean, it's obviously this isn't about me. This is again, you know to all the photographers out there This is about make your pictures tell a story and to me this might be one of the most powerful Images and powerful stories. I think that one of my pictures has ever told so I'm pretty happy with the with how it turned out and you know, we'll see how it goes from there and Again, if you watched yesterday's video I posted Announcing my book for episode 100. I posted a video on on Facebook.

It's up over 1500 views 10 people shared it and you know close to 40 people commenting and offering their congratulations So thank you again seriously the last two days of social media interaction for me and and what I'm doing has been through the roof And I couldn't be more pleased and more appreciative to all of you So again, I'm gonna leave it right there for this evening because I haven't eaten dinner yet and I'm kind of hungry And so that's that so four one two seven one four three two three is the show call in number paulfalfelito podcast calm And as always thanks for listening
