“I don’t want you to think that this is only for some chosen people that can actually silence their mind. In fact, for me, meditation is not so much about silencing my mind, but elongating my thoughts.”

You don’t need to be a sensei or yogi to find some time to center yourself or try your mind at meditation. In this episode, we’re just taking a few minutes to calm down and try to get grounded. In addition to a short guided meditation (starting at 10:41), Karen also talks about the countless ways to meditate, giving us a toolbox to pull from whenever we need to take a moment to tune in to ourselves.

Here’s a mini toolbox to get you started with meditation:

  • Ground yourself: Tune in to your heartbeat and breath, with your left hand on your heart and right hand on your stomach (breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth). Then, we want to achieve full body integration by doing a slow scan of our body from head to toe. Imagine roots growing from the bottoms of your feet, helping you feel some stability and groundedness.
  • Meditative mantras: Pick a word of the year, affirmation, motto, quote, or anything else to focus on, not just for your career, but for your whole self. Visualize what it would be like if it was embodied - how would you feel, what would you see?
