Episode 102 - Apple 21st Century Mafia

from That Real Blind Tech Show

It's an all new That Real Blind Tech show. Brian and Ed welcome in friend of the podcast David Goldstein to the podcast.   David just popped in to NYC to join Brian and Ed at Laugh For Sight at Gotham Comedy Club on October 24th, so we thought we would have David on to help us recap the long awaited return of Laugh For Sight. This year's benefit was absolutely epic and featured Legendary Comedian Robert Klein, Aaron Berg, Ophira Eisenberg, Joe Derosa, Andy Fiori, Boris Khaykin, along with Host and Friend of the podcast Brian Mccarthy. Oh yeah, and our pal Jim Gaffigan popped in to do a set. This year's benefit was also the Inaugural What the F*ck Have the Blind Ever Done For Me Laugh For Sight Lifetime Appreciation Awards. Recipients included Robert Klein, Chris Mazzilli Owner Gotham Comedy Club, Gilbert Gottfried, and Larry Goldberg. The idea of the award is to merge the comedy world with blind tech, and who better to do that then friend of the podcast, Larry Goldberg.     After many mentions on this show during a specific segment of the show, Apple is finally redesigning iCloud.com. The beta which you can now visit is surprisingly off to a much improved start.   We continue on the positive with a fantastic story about a developer that gets accessibility. The streaming wars are here, and prices are going up everywhere. Will you continue to stream or cut the stream? We discuss which services we are subscribed to, and mass confusion sets in. We then speculate on how the Netflix password crackdown will work as it will kicking in come January. Even though it was announced over a week ago, we briefly discuss the new iPads launched by apple because we are a blind tech show after all. Next we  discuss Mac OS Ventura and how it is currently working, or not working with VoiceOver. And finally it is on to our thoughts about iOS 16.1. The iPhone 14 just came out, so it's the perfect time for iPhone 15 rumors. You are not alone if you think you have been seeing just a few ads for gambling in the App Store. And you thought political ads were annoying enough, could you soon be seeing gambling on political race ads?   And has Apple finally turned in to Robert deNiro from Goodfellas with their new in app purchase ad policy?   We then discuss the JackPocket app, a app to buy lottery tickets, which is surprisingly fully accessible with VoiceOver.   With the end of the year creeping up on us, we figured it would be a good time to go around and check out what all of our go to devices and apps were at the end of 2022.   To contact That Real Blind Tech Show, you can email us at [email protected], join our Facebook Group That Real Blind Tech Show, join us on the Twitter @BlindTechShow , or leave us an old school phone message at 929-367-1005.
