Episode 103 - Gino "Lock Johnson" Iglehart

Where do I even begin to describe how special it was to speak with Gino "Lock Johnson" Iglehart ... I mean, this man is a legend. Remember that Erykah Badu album, Mama's Gun? (And if not, please Google it.) Well, Gino was a producer and musician on that album, and that's kind of what jumpstarted his career in music. During his time working with Ms. Badu, he had the opportunity to hone his songwriting skills and learn the ins and outs of the industry. Two decades later, Gino remains "in the business" in multiple capacities: owner of events/promotion company Lock Johnson's Playground, which is cautiously rolling out a few live music events this summer; drummer for Kirk Thurmond and the Millennials; writer/producer for his own band, IvorY JeaN; promoter/brand ambassador for the GroundUP community; marketing consultant for up-and-coming artists; and founder of his new music label, Playground Recordings.  And yes, we do talk about the pandemic. We talk about the protests, and the state of affairs in Texas and nationwide. We talk about the necessity of gathering together—safely—and digging deeper to find ways to create and collaborate as the music industry continues to evolve.
