Episode #103 Value Yourself

from Legal Imposters · host Caroline Flanagan

How much do you value yourself? Here's how you know: the way you treat yourself the way you talk about yourself to others how well you take care of yourself how you present yourself This is not about your value in the workplace. This is about your self worth. Your worthiness. Your belief in your innate value as a human being and the value, potential and brilliance inherent within that. As I explain in this week's episode, this is your intrinsic value and it's very different to your commercial or business value. There are 3 reasons why valuing yourself matters: Your worthiness as a human is completely independent of the circumstances outside of you or people around you. So it doesn't matter what's going on in your career or relationships, your self worth should never change. Although independent of others, your belief in your own value does influence how much they value you and treat you. So the more you value yourself, the easier you make it for others to see your value and treat you accordingly. When you value yourself, you're sufficient. You don't need to chase validation or proof of your value. This frees you up to focus on showcasing your business value - i.e. the value you bring to your firm or organisation that's a prerequisite for your next promotion. If you've ever found yourself questioning your self worth or relying on external factors (your achievements, external validation from others) to feel worthy and valuable, this episode is for you. Happy listening. P.S. If you're a mid to senior level black lawyer and you've ever confused your self worth with your career worth, I can help you with that.
