Episode 104: Choosing How We Live Our Life with Mary Greensmith
from Homeopathy 247 Podcast · host Homeopathy247
How much of the way you live comes from your own choices, and how much comes from rules and expectations you have followed for years? In this solo episode of the Homeopathy247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith reflects on choice, confidence, fear of failure and what it means to create a life that feels right for you. Why We Follow the Rules From childhood, we become part of families, schools, communities and other groups that each have their own expectations. Mary explores how these rules can help groups function but may also influence the way we think about success, safety and what we believe we are allowed to do. As adults, we have the opportunity to reconsider some of those beliefs and decide which ones still fit our lives. Learning to Be Comfortable With Failure Mary describes herself as someone who enjoys experimenting. Rather than seeing something that does not work as a failure, she prefers to see it as something she can learn from and approach differently next time. That change in mindset can make trying something new feel much less frightening. What Is Holding You Back? Sometimes the biggest barriers are not practical. Fear of what other people may think, lack of confidence, family expectations, finances or simply being afraid of getting something wrong can all make change difficult. Mary encourages listeners to identify what is actually stopping them before deciding what needs to change. Making Healthier Choices Mary also reflects on some of the everyday foundations she considers important for wellbeing, including nourishing food, managing stress, enjoying life and spending time doing things that make you happy. Healthy living does not have to mean following somebody else's perfect routine. It can mean understanding what helps you feel well and building more of that into everyday life. Finding Your People One of Mary's biggest personal lessons has been realizing that she was not necessarily different. She simply had not found enough people who shared the same interests and values. The internet has made it much easier to connect with communities around homeopathy, homeschooling, growing food, simple living and other lifestyle choices. Allowing Other People to Choose Differently Choice also works both ways. Mary talks about learning to accept that other people may want very different lives, beliefs and priorities. You do not necessarily have to agree with somebody else's choices in order to respect their right to make them. Key Takeaways Many of our beliefs begin with family and social expectations. It can be useful to question whether old rules still fit your life. Mistakes can become opportunities to learn. Fear of judgment can stop us making changes we really want. Healthy living includes physical and emotional wellbeing. Finding supportive communities can make different choices feel less isolating. Other people are allowed to choose differently too. A fulfilling lifestyle should reflect your own values and priorities. Subscribe to our YouTube channel and be updated with our latest episodes.
