Episode 104 | People Pleasing
from Psych Talk · host Dr. Jessica Rabon
In today's episode of Psych Talk , I talk all about people pleasing. People pleasing isn't just being kind or helpful, it is putting other's needs in front of your own to make them happy, often out of fear that if you don't you will upset them. In this episode I go through a variety of signs that may indicate you are a people pleaser or engage in people pleasing tendencies. "People pleasing" is not a diagnosis, but rather a pattern of behavior. There are a variety of reasons one may people please - anxiety, depression, perfectionism, low self-esteem, or fear of rejection - to name a few. Although all relationships involve some give and take and we often want to be kind to those we care about, I dive into the consequences of people pleasing, such as resentment, stress, being taken advantage of, and poorer quality relationships. Lastly, I go through a number of things people can do to start overcoming their people pleasing tendencies.
