Episode 104 | People Pleasing

from Psych Talk · host Dr. Jessica Rabon

In today's episode of Psych Talk , I talk all about people pleasing. People pleasing isn't just being kind or helpful, it is putting other's needs in front of your own to make them happy, often out of fear that if you don't you will upset them. In this episode I go through a variety of signs that may indicate you are a people pleaser or engage in people pleasing tendencies. "People pleasing" is not a diagnosis, but rather a pattern of behavior. There are a variety of reasons one may people please - anxiety, depression, perfectionism, low self-esteem, or fear of rejection - to name a few. Although all relationships involve some give and take and we often want to be kind to those we care about, I dive into the consequences of people pleasing, such as resentment, stress, being taken advantage of, and poorer quality relationships. Lastly, I go through a number of things people can do to start overcoming their people pleasing tendencies. Ways to Work With Me:Mind Over MatterLGBTQ+ Affirming MasterclassBe a guest on my podcastResources:Anti-Racism ResourcesLGBTQ+ Affirming ResourcesThe Helping Professional's Guide to Boundary SettingConnect with Me:Follow me on IG @jessicaleighphdFollow the podcast on IG @psych.talk.podcastFollow me on TikTok @jessicaleighphdJoin my Facebook community: Grow Through What You Go ThroughIntro/Outro Music:Life of Riley by Kevin MacLeodMusic LicenseAwakening Together, Relaxing into Happiness with William Cooper, M.Th., LPCExperience Awakening....Relaxing into your Being and, therefore, Happiness.
