Episode 105 - The Effects of Shame

from Counselling Conversations with Julie · host Julie Thomas

Shame is a powerful and complex emotion that can have profound consequences on our mental and emotional wellbeing and can significantly impact our quality of life. Shame tends to deeply ingrain itself in our sense of self. Our sense of self is the perception we have of ourselves, the characteristics and traits that define us as individuals. When we lose our sense of self a gap is formed, a space in our identity. We may question who we are, and the inner critic's volume is turned up which may result in increased anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence, feelings of being a failure and loneliness.
