D-BAT is a franchise of baseball and softball training academies with about 140 stores open across 36 states, and the Nashville location is considered one of the best in the country. When he opened back in August of 2020, which was at the peak of Covid, he actually had the worst first quarter in the company’s history in terms of revenue collected. But now he’s in Year 3 and on pace to blow by the million-dollar mark, which is considered a status symbol in this business model.Prior to opening D-BAT, John was a sportswriter for about 15 years. He’s been a daily beat reporter covering the Chicago Bears as well as the Florida State Seminoles. Most recently, he covered SEC football as the Senior Writer for the popular website Saturday Down South. He’s been to half a dozen Super Bowls. He’s been a half a dozen national championship games. He also used to vote for the Heisman Trophy. If there’s a sports talk radio station somewhere in America, chances are he’s been a guest talking football at some point.Originally born in Indianapolis, John has actually spent about half of his life in Chicago and remains a passionate fan of the Bears, White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks. He went to Florida State, and while he didn’t have much of a career as a walk-on for the baseball team, he did manage to hit a home run off a future first-round draft pick.
