from Trauma Survivors Unite: Christian Emotional Recovery · host Rachel Leroy
Episode Description:A.C.O.R.N: A Tool to Process Difficult Emotions discusses the nature of emotions and how they are not bad in themselves, but indicators letting us know something needs our attention. The podcast discusses layering, and how reacting to the original emotion can needlessly complicate and add suffering to the experience. Culture treats difficult emotions differently than physical ailments and illness--such as using unhealthy strategies to avoid dealing with them, or by stigmatizing them--but they should get the same urgent attention as health problems. Then, the podcast discusses how we avoid difficult emotions. We discuss a better tool for dealing with difficult emotions using the A.C.O.R.N acronym, which are the steps for what to do when difficult emotions arise. These steps include Acceptance, Compassion, Objective Curiosity, Refocus/Reframe, and Not Layering. This process will help you deal with difficult emotions in the moment and used consistently, will help you heal trauma in your body by dealing with emotions in the body at their source.
