Episode 11: Breathe By Alice de Nardis

Welcome to another episode of Story Time. Today, I have shared a romantic poem by Alice de Nardis. This poem was born when the writer questioned if she had ever tried to match your breathing to that of the person sleeping next to her. She was trying to fall asleep next to her boyfriend, who was breathing quite fast, so she put a hand on his chest and told him, “breathe”… and the poem came to her while he fell asleep.Alice is a 23-year-old Italian woman naturalised in English, who writes poems, diary extracts and short articles. Her writing centres on themes of introspection, womanhood, feeling, with often a reference to Nature as a calming and hopeful force, as opposed to the outside world. This comes mainly from her adoration of Mary Oliver’s writing, as well as other great female authors such as M. Atwood or Sylvia Plath.
