Kyle Varr brings you expert education about everything aesthetic, beauty and wellness related. And now your host Dr. Kyle Varr. Hello everybody, good evening.
It is December 31st, 2019 that we are recording this. If you didn't know that, you should have just looked at Instagram or Facebook today and it would have been a nice reminder to you that it was filled with all of these promises that everybody is making themselves. But hey, happy New Year everybody. That's about as exciting as it gets here.
I am at home, comfortable, warm, toasty, bored of cocktail. And it's nice to just be at home. My New Year's Eve, kids are in bed. We are just watching Binging on Disney Plus and Amazon Prime.
And yeah, it's a perfect New Year's Eve. But when this podcast is just to kind of touch base real quick since it is still 2019, our last second year before we started a new decade, and kind of just reflect on everything awesome that has happened this last year with myself. And then also the last decade, really, where I've really, I would say, grown as a aesthetic injector and also started proudly the practice that I run to try to aesthetics company. But this last year has truly been a freaking fantastic amazing year.
I was sitting on a couch running numbers here before I got on the podcast and I was able to see, you know, see, I got how many vials of Dysport we've injected, syringes of Restylin, we've injected syringes of Restylin, Refine and Define Lift that we've used, and it's, you know, the other products we use Versa and all these other things, it's been absolutely awesome to kind of reflect on this year. And then I was like, oh, let's try to remember all the fun things that happened. And so then I started to go through Instagram and just looking at the pictures, you know, we started 2019. I started at first with a trip to Florida with my husband and our two kids, and we had an awesome chance to just kind of experience Disney World, and it was enjoyable, busy, but we had a blast.
And then, you know, for me, 2019 as a game trainer with Gil-Germot, I mentioned it before, I get the privilege of being one of their game trainer faculty, so I get to go out and train other accounts on the use of their products, but we was able to kick off 2019 in Philadelphia, and where we launched the Bold Blunted Beautiful Tour, where we started, you know, we learned Restylin Lift had its new cannula indication for the face, for mid-face augmentation, that was the fantastic trip, I got to take it with, you know, some of my really close, close injector friends, and it was just an awesome collaborative experience with everybody, and then in March I flew out to Beverly Hills, I hadn't been out there for really long time to LA, and it was, I got to train with Simon Ory, and those of you who know him, he has the Kardashians as clients, and all kinds of other celebrities, and runway models, and things like that, and I had the privilege of sitting in the room with him, and getting to learn from him and absorb all of his information, which was just absolutely incredible. Got to take that trip with a really good friend of mine, Erin, from her, she owns a business in the Metro Trade Area called Revival RN, and we had a blast out there in LA. Fun antics coming home to, it's still one of my favorite memories, her assistant was with us, and she kind of fell asleep in the Delta Lounge, and if you know me well, I'd like to joke or play prank some people, and we haven't had video on this really funny, just like tickling her to wake her up, or tickling her nose, I forget exactly what we did, but something, Erin, I thought it was funny, we were also kind of slapped at night, we had a red eye home, but again, an amazing experience and skills that I've learned there, I brought into not only my clinical practice, but the training work that I do as well, and then my God, come February, my office to try to step it's company, you know, it was February March April, where a little, personally it was rough, you know, there's a lot of change at the office, you know, that I faced, but it was a good change, a force to change, but a good change, kind of revamp the office, remodeled, kind of gave ourselves a little polish up, you know, that we did, I really liked the look of the office now, and it was good, it was one of those things that needed to happen, it was one of those things that when it did happen, it was a little uncomfortable at first, but it reminded me that sometimes you have to kind of step out of your comfort zone, and kind of find a new comfort, and it also kind of instilled in me a new sense of confidence, you know, it kind of allowed me to fully define exactly what I wanted to try to study this company to be, and make it that for just me and the people that work with me. We also in 2019 had the opportunity to add, you know, really three new staff to the office, Lisa, nurse injector who I've known a long time and I've always kind of, you know, jokingly said, well, you should come work with me, it would be great, that actually came to fruition this year, the opportunity for her to come, we brought on Jill, another nurse injector who is flipping fantastic, and then most recently brought on a new medical esthetician, Jamie, who provides phenomenal skincare facial treatments using Zio products, and skin better science products and elastin products and hydrophacial and microneedling and all that fun stuff, but it ended 2019, I stopped by the office today at the end of the day, actually, you know, make sure payroll and everything was wrapped up, you know, nothing like waiting for the last minute on December 31st, but any of you who know me or you get to know me, you know that that should not shock you, that that was the last hour that that kind of stuff was happening, but it was just a really cool reflection moment to kind of be in the office and realize like, yes, this is, I'm ending 2019 in a really good and a proud note, I'm very happy and proud for everything's at, but I also know that there's a lot of growth for us in 2020, every time I say 2020, I joke, I just think of Barbara Walters in 2020, but you've seen the meme out there probably 150 times, but I don't know, I still have that every time I see it.
But I left the office today, you know, really happy with where everything is at. And then again, kind of continuing through the year back on track here, it made some amazing friends out in LA to the first trip back in March met Aaron who was a nurse injector out from the California area. Fell in love with the Vanderpump Rose, by the way, when I was out in LA in March, didn't realize how fantastic that adult libation was when I ate at Villablanca, but that's kind of become a staple for me. And then, you know, learned a lot of new techniques as well, got to learn a lot with rejuvenate threads and PDO thread lifts and again, really probably one of the highlights for me this year has really been the training that I've done.
You know, not only having the opportunity to work with Gilderma as a game trainer, which is a huge honor is the right word. I had to, well, word search there for a second, but it's a huge privilege and an honor to get to come into these practices. But then the places that I had the chance to visit this year were absolutely incredible. Not only locally in the state of Michigan, but down to Ohio, and I got to fly over to Wisconsin twice to not only present a dinner presentation with another amazing colleague as well who is so well respected in the aesthetic industry at the chance to share a dinner presentation with her was a huge, amazing experience.
And meet the Gilderma reps out there and the accounts that are out there when we're training. I got to go back. I got the chance to go out East towards the Martha's Vineyard area there to I can't remember where I land because it was a crazy flight when that happened. The whole, we'd like make it a couldn't land where we supposed to land somewhere else.
I don't even honestly remember what airport we ended up in, but anyways, it was a fantastic trip. It was kind of one of those trips that because of weather, I couldn't actually get out to the vineyard, which was kind of a bummer, but ended up going to another account and we got to kind of shift things around. Last minute, but it was one of those things that I'm glad it happened because the person that I trained, but we really clicked and we still keep in touch and it's awesome. It was one of those things I do believe that there are certain things that happened for a certain reason and that was one of them.
That's another one of those moments that really just stuck with me. I left that training thinking like, wow, this was just it was really, really awesome. It was an awesome experience. All the trainings are love meeting people in training.
Also in 2019, I launched the new injector training program at my office that I'm super proud of. I offer a neuromodulator 101 and dermal fillers 101 class, full day courses to teach potential new injectors, whether they're nurses, physicians, assistants, practitioners, doctors, dentists, et cetera. Who want to learn how to inject? I have those trainings at my office and that has been awesome to see all kinds of people come through my office and again, another opportunity to meet people.
Those of you who know me well, you know, I've been an educator for a long time. I've taught at the university level. I've taught review courses for nursing board prep and stuff. I love, love, love, love educating and teaching and watching people grow and develop themselves as an educator.
That's why I really like doing that. We have another class coming up now at the end of January. I've been working on that and always kind of keeping things up to date. It's been just really an awesome year.
Lots of cool experiences and new people and trips and travel. I'll have a business. I got the chance to go out to California for a second time. We went out to Dr.
K to her presentation out in California again. And then the second day, you know, we added on with my friend Carrie that you heard the other day on the phone interview and Erin was there as well. And then Erin, we say I have local Erin who's Erin, Brighton Erin. And then now we have California Erin that we met when we were out at Dr.
Orian's class and then she brought her friend Heather. And again, Heather was another one of those people that like the minute I met her, it was like you would have thought that we have known each other forever. So that was awesome. You know, she brought her and we all just really clicked.
She's on Instagram as well. The Botox Blonde. You can follow her. That was super fun.
And we just we had a blast to the Dr. K's class. All kinds of crazy new things from, you know, again, another awesome panel of people. Botox Josh was there, aesthetic people.
I'm sure you follow him on Instagram. He's super freaking hilarious and lots of, he's, I appreciate him because he's just one of those people who just says what he wants to say. And it's, you know, we need more people like that. You need to just say what's in your mind, which was awesome.
Or dev, dev, dev, dev, dev, and from York and, again, a phenomenal panel of people. Again, you kind of leave there and you have to kind of decompress because you have so much information when you leave. But another amazing opportunity to to train for myself. Again, I'm always trained.
I'm looking forward to things coming in 2020 for training. And then the end of the year really ended with a bang as well. We added a couple new laser devices at the office. We had never really had anything new lately for really diving into skin rejuvenation, editorialist company.
able to introduce air lace with the air lays late padneo, which is kind of a zero downtime. I don't know if you could call it a lunchtime laser. You can come and get it done. You can immediately go back to normal skin crew routine, put makeup on and everything's good.
But it treats like a bazillion different conditions. But we treat so many clients now recently, I've seen such good results for acne and rosacea and just overall rejuvenation. Kathy Lee Kifford made it pretty popular after she had a series of them done. Then we also brought on the air lays era as well, which is an Herbium kind of a blade of procedure.
So if you want more of that intense, got a little downtime with it and some real kind of rigorous skincare routine when you're done. But man, does it produce some amazing results? And then, you know, Santa Claus delivered this year for the Tristetics Company and brought us our cool tone device for cool sculpting for the electromagnetic muscle stimulation to kind of build those abs and help support all that work you're going to be doing at the gym here come 2020. But, you know, it's I'm not a huge person to sit back and be like, I'm going to set my 2020 goals.
I have, I have goals that are personal goals that I want to achieve for myself and the business and growth. But, you know, everything's always kind of a work in progress and you should never stop wanting to work and develop and enhance yourself even even more. I already have some amazing conferences played for 2020. I can't wait to get to aesthetic next at the end of April, first part of May for their conference.
I mean, my God, the people coming there, those of you, those aesthetic people out there, Julie Horn, her lips are flipping phenomenal. Everybody that's like lip porn for those of us in the aesthetic industry to look at the lips that she does can't wait to learn from her. I mean, again, this panel people just an Harper, excuse me, will be just, you know, that'll be an amazing conference and it's just exciting to think what's to come. But yeah, so, geez, I've a, tickle in my throat.
Hang on. As we end 2019 and head into 2020, you know, do take a minute for yourself whether you listen to this tonight on December 31st, coming up low here or January 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and so on, always take a minute every day and ask yourself, you know, what am I going to do to grow and to develop myself further, whether it be as an individual, a business owner, nurse, injector, spouse, partner, whatever, always make sure you're growing and you have your eyes set on the future. You do have to look to the future. Think about that.
Hey, it is, it is the end of a decade. It's crazy to think again, you know, 10 years ago, people were posting this like, where was I? I mean, my God, I was just about, you know, rappers wrapping up grad school thinking about starting a doctoral program. And I did I think I would ever be here?
No, but I am, I life takes you in amazing directions. And I honestly could not be happy. I could not be more satisfied. My life, especially in the last year has changed miraculously in ways that I've never imagined.
My husband and I finalized the adoption of our two kids, which that has just been an amazing experience. On one point, people say, well, how's it been? It's been crazy. And I'm like, no, it, it feels like it was always supposed to be this way.
I could get into a whole podcast episode just about this, but it's been incredible. And it's been awesome. And I just can't wait to do it even more. Having them every day gives me more drive to work even harder, because I feel like I am doing this for them.
I am, I'm working hard for them. And it's just awesome and incredible. And those of you who are parents, it's incredible. Even if you're not parents or aunts, uncles, or you have little kids that you're close to in your life, you just know how much joy they bring you.
And it is awesome. But that was 2019 for me a little bit on a personal level, crazy year. We moved, we all this, but it's it's ending on such a high note. But I'm also like super content every bit.
You know, I have other people who are out celebrating the new year and huge crowds and everything that. And I am like perfectly flipping happy sitting in my super fancy sweatpants, a t-shirt, a baseball cap, sipping a diet Coke and Jack enjoying New Year's Eve at home watching Disney Plus and Amazon Prime. And I could not think it could end any better. 2019 has been incredible.
I can't wait to see what 2020 brings for the office for myself, for my family, for everybody else. Share your goals. You know, having accountability partner. I have one.
I talk about them with people. I talk about them with my team at work, set those goals, set your sights. I can tell you for sure, one thing I didn't do in 2019 was a darn thing with this podcast. And I can't wait to take this particularly further aesthetic express in 2020.
I'm really going to do a lot with it, you know, short episodes, long episodes, more interviews. So again, even from last night, I got quite a few emails today, even telling me things that people would like to hear more about, you know, keep them coming.
