Episode 11: In Control with Jerri Pt 1 of 2

On this episode you will hear from Jerri!! Although the audio isn't my best you can hear it perfectly fine. Jerri has lived with an a1c of 4.6 and below for 7 years now! How I found Jerri, I really don't know but when I came about the idea for this podcast I knew then and there that THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY NEEDED TO HEAR HER TRIUMPH!! In 1981, the year President Raegan was shot, the first year of HIV/AIDS in the US was identified, the legend that is Bob Marley's passing, Prince Charles and Lady Diana were married, a then unknown singer named Prince opened for Rolling Stones, Muhammad Ali officially put away his gloves and in Tennesse a 14-year-old girl name Jerri was not only coming of age transitioning from middle school to high school, but she was also diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. Throughout this conversation Jerri talks about not only taking control of your diabetes but being in as much control as you can! Jerri's mother lived through gestational diabetes with four of her pregnancies and by her mid 30's she was fully insulin dependent. Early on Jerri and her mom even shared hospital stays due to diabetes. Jerri is impassioned with her own care and loves to share it with community. This is something that was not available during her diagnosis and her mom's as well. Her mom passed from diabetes complications at 52. About 10 years ago Jerri's sister was also diagnosed with diabetes. Today she lives with CKD and has lost her vision. Later on, after living for many years with the roller coasters that are diabetes Jerri took it upon herself to do some hard research and this is when in the middle of the night via YouTube she came across Dr. Bernstein's book. Today she lives with an a1c below 4.6 and has for the last 7 years and feels equally amazing and full of life!!
