Episode 11 - Julia Seidel (Compassion Community Clinic)

This week we got to hear from Julia Seidel, the Executive Director of Compassion Community Clinic. Compassion Community Clinic (CC Clinic) is a non-profit dental clinic, offering health and hope to low-income, uninsured adults in Northern Nevada. CC Clinic is the first and only ongoing, free dental clinic in Northern Nevada.  In Washoe County, 1 in 4 adults are estimated to have no dental insurance, which equates to approximately 107,119 individuals — though many professionals predict the number is higher. At CC Clinic, patients are served with sincere concern for their physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Our all-volunteer staff of dental professionals provide exams, X-rays, fillings, extractions, cleanings and instruction on maintaining oral health. In the last five years, CC Clinic has provided more than $780,000 in free care to those who couldn’t otherwise be treated. Committing to complete a patient’s treatment plan is a large investment, with the average patient having 3 visits – though many require more extensive care and referrals to specialists. At this time, CC Clinic’s waiting list is two years long, which is one of the shortest patient waiting periods for dental care in Northern Nevada.  CC Clinic is currently in a time of transition and growth with the goal to be better positioned to serve more patients and become an increasingly vital partner in the Northern Nevada healthcare community.
