Episode 110 - Glory *Listener's Choice*
from In The Queue - Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil · host Andrew and Phil
One of the best films about war, and not an anti-war film, Ed Zwick's "Glory" never glamorizes the Civil War but shows it to be a battle for which it is worth dying. Matthew Broderick sheds his Bueller persona to be utterly conving as a Captain from a refined background who must lead the 54th, a regiment of Negro soldiers in the march to South Carolina. In a fundamental way, this is a classic underdog story, which has often worked well in the movies. "Glory" transcends this genre by being populated with incredibly great performances and the most haunting musical score in recent times. Chris requested that Andrew and Phil watch "Glory" and he joins in on the discussion.
