Welcome to the Tweed Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl, and you are tuned in to Tweed Trends. It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today.
Welcome back to Tweed Trends, everybody. Today's episode is all about disasters. So let's get started. I picked the disaster to be the title of today's episode because the definition of disaster is a sudden event such as an accident or a natural catastrophe that causes great damage or loss of life.
And that, to me, speaks to the fact that today is the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, as well as off the east coast we have a hurricane that is threatening disaster for various areas. So with today being September 11th, I was wondering if there was anything locally that I could go to to commemorate, to remember the fallen, those people that were on the plains and in the buildings and, you know, what could I do? And in doing so, I ran across an article that listed 22 amazing memorials, they call it the most powerful memorials around the world. And it's true around the world because not only are they a whole bunch in New York and then there's like one in New Jersey and Arlington, Virginia, but then they also have one in Italy, they have one in Jerusalem and I think they had two in London.
And so I'm going to put this on Twitter so you can go check it out yourself. One that I really think is beautiful is one in Rosemead, California. Yeah, definitely check that one out. It's an awesome sculpture where it's two hands that are holding one of the beams from the World Trade Center, one of the buildings, and the hands are constructed with 2,976 interlocking birds representing the individual victims that were lost from the attacks.
I think this is absolutely beautiful. So definitely check that out. So while you're checking that stuff out, check out some information for your personal wherever you live, your area on emergency preparedness. Because right now, honestly, I am in one of the areas in one of those states where they're saying that people need to evacuate.
Right now, my area is a mandatory evacuation because they're saying that the waters could very well rise and we don't want to have another situation like Katrina here. And I don't know, it's tough for me because I grew up in South Carolina where if we didn't have a hurricane come, then it seemed like something was wrong with the year. And on top of that, my father was not one to evacuate. So whenever storms came through, we knew we were staying.
So we got our water, we got our batteries, we got all the stuff that we needed, even down to the generator and all that good stuff. Yeah, we had it all because daddy was not leaving. And the reason my dad wasn't leaving is because he didn't like the way that things happened after the fact. So after the storm, then there tends to be, um, curfews where you cannot be outside or in places and then getting back to your own home tends to be an issue as well.
And his thing was if something happens to my house, I want to be there, then to make it happen and get it fixed and do whatever I need to do. Now the part of the whole situation, I don't think he thought through well was what if, just what if this is that storm that brings the water, they live in a rancher. So you know, there was no second floor to move to unless we went in the attic and who wants to do that? I'm sure if it means life or death, sure you do.
But even in their house, you have to leave the house and go into the garage to get into the attic. So if waters are rising, then you're having to still go out in some type of element to get to safety. And because of that, I feel like I'm semi handicapped as if the idea of leaving just doesn't seem right to me. But I've seen places like New Orleans where those people probably thought the same thing.
All we've seen hurricanes, but they've never seen hurricanes where the levees broke. And so I don't know. My dream, I wish, I want for you, so that you know the emergency preparedness, information for your area. And that way you can make good decisions.
And hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to let you know what my decision was. Thanks for joining me for another episode of Tweet Trends. Do me a favor though, head on over to Twitter and follow me at hethat. That's at heive.
Or just look for the hashtag tweet trends. Before I go, just to let you know one more thing, today is National Day of Service and Remembrance. So a way to remember those who gave their lives on 9-11, why not attempt to do something great for their families by supporting families of freedom. You can visit the website at familiesoffreedom.org.
And when you go there, you can select families of Freedom Scholarship Fund and that way you can help the children of those that were lost. Alright guys, have a great day and I'll see you tomorrow.
