Episode 111 - Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter

from In The Queue - Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil · host Andrew and Phil

Rabbits don't get their due, cinematically.  There's that new Blu-Ray of "Watership Down" that Criterion recently released.  But not that many films feature rabbits as the hero or even a sidekick.  So imagine how excited we were to learn that "Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter" prominently featured a rabbit as the title character's companion.  Alas, Bunzo, as his owner Kumiko called him, was not meant to be the hero or even sidekick of this story.  His contribution to the story is dwarfed by Kumiko, the central character, who lives a lonely life in Tokyo. She discovers a VHS tape of the movie "Fargo" and decides she's going to travel to Minnesota and dig up the suitcase full of money that Steve Buscemi's character hides in the snow.  You and I both know that is impossible, but try telling that to Kumiko.  Minnesota is pretty snowy, you get my drift?  Listen for Andrew and Phil's reaction to this strange film.  You can download the podcast here by right-clicking on the hypertext link and choosing "save as", or you can use the convenient player attached to this post.
