Episode 113: Singing in silence
from Chunks: The Book of Psalms · host Cameron Lee
Most people who read their Bibles, I suspect, have one translation they favor, perhaps reading only that translation and no others. But it can be valuable to read more than one, because the differences can jar us into new insights. The beginning of Psalm 65 is a good example; contemporary translations of the very first verse differ enough to make you scratch your head in confusion. Part of the challenge for translators is figuring out what the psalmist means by using the word “silence.” And the challenge for us is in knowing what it might mean to be still and silent before God, even in our praise.
