Episode 114: Jasmine Cannady & JJ Bright
from Suffer the Little Children · host Suffer the Little Children
On a seemingly mundane Monday afternoon in February of 2021, a 911 call summoned police to an unassuming two-story brick home in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. On the front porch, officers found 48-year-old Krisinda Bright waiting for them, covered in what she freely admitted was the blood of two of her children: 16-year-old JJ Bright and 22-year-old Jasmine Cannady, both of whom were inside the home, dead from apparent gunshot wounds to the head.JJ, a transgender boy who socially transitioned at age 12, and Jasmine, who identified as nonbinary and used they/them pronouns, have been consistently misgendered by most media outlets from the start, and JJ has been deadnamed in news articles more times than I can count. In life, they deserved the respect of being referred to by their preferred pronouns and JJ by his chosen name; in death, the very least we can do is remember them with dignity and respect, the way they both deserve. This is the tragic story of Jasmine Cannady and JJ Bright.Links discussed in this episode:Remembering Jasmine Cannady And Jj/jeffrey Bright Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1131134003974889 PRISM Beaver County: https://www.facebook.com/prismlgbtqyouth/ NAMI Beaver County: https://www.namikeystonepa.org/discover-nami/find-your-local-nami/beaver-county-pa/ The Human Rights Campaign: https://hrc.org The Trevor Project: https://www.thetrevorproject.org/ Transgender Homicide Tracker: http://hrc.im/GunViolence Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook and Instagram:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodYou can also follow the podcast on: Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/sufferthelittlechildrenpodcast Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTumblr: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/sufferthelittlechildrenpodPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpod My Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com.
