Episode 12: Dealing with Internalized Misogyny in Female Relationships

from No Boundaries: Black Girl Magic Edition with Anousha Nzume · host Anousha Nzume

Internalized misogyny will inevitably eventually creep into female friendships, especially as we start to get older and start caring more about the opposite sex. It's just how the system works. But does it have to ruin every single friendship we care about? Not necessarily. Female friendships are so beautiful and so fulfilling. The best part of our days is oftentimes the hours we spend hanging out with our friends and talking about absolutely everything. And at some point, we have to put our foot down and protect these friendships from the misogynistic systems around us. And to do that, we need to identify what exactly is internalized misogyny and why it hurts so much. In this week’s episode, we talk about our experiences with internalized misogyny, why it’s different in the US compared to in the Netherlands, and how to protect our friendships when guys get in the way. This system was made to keep us apart, which is exactly why thriving female friendships are a radical act. Rebel with us and let us know how you responded to internalized misogyny in the comments below!   Enjoy!
