Episode 121 | Medical Trauma

from Psych Talk · host Dr. Jessica Rabon

In today's episode of Psych Talk I discuss medical trauma. Working in a hospital this is something I frequently see; however, I unfortunately do not feel like it is well recognized by the mental health community, nor do we get specialized training in it (unless we seek it out). In this episode I discuss what medical trauma is and various ways experiences in medical settings can be traumatic. Additionally, I talk about PTSD and post-traumatic stress symptoms after medical trauma and discuss two models, the Integrated Model of Pediatric Traumatic Stress & Enduring Somatic Threat Model, of medical trauma. Lastly, I talk about interventions to help medical trauma.Resources:Integrated Model of Pediatric Traumatic StressEnduring Somatic Threat ModelWays to Work With Me:Mind Over MatterLGBTQ+ Affirming MasterclassBe a guest on my podcastResources:Anti-Racism ResourcesLGBTQ+ Affirming ResourcesThe Helping Professional's Guide to Boundary SettingConnect with Me:Follow me on IG @jessicaleighphdFollow the podcast on IG @psych.talk.podcastFollow me on TikTok @jessicaleighphdFollow me on Youtube Welcome to Group Therapy PodcastJoin my Facebook community: Grow Through What You Go ThroughIntro/Outro Music:Awakening Together, Relaxing into Happiness with William Cooper, M.Th., LPCExperience Awakening....Relaxing into your Being and, therefore, Happiness.
