Born on March 10, 1976, in West Virginia, Pike had a troubled upbringing marked by instability and abuse. At 18, while attending a Job Corps program in Tennessee, she murdered a fellow student, Colleen Slemmer, in 1995, in what was described as a premeditated killing fueled by jealousy and obsession. Pike and her accomplices lured Slemmer to a secluded area, where she was brutally tortured and killed. Pike kept a piece of the victim's skull as a trophy, which became a key piece of evidence during her trial.
