Episode 122: Life Update, Mental Health Month, It's OK to NOT be OK

from Empowered in Health · host Erin Trier

On today's episode of Empowered in Health, I'm pulling back the curtain on my life right now and how I'm not really feeling "okay". If I've learned anything along my personal health journey and the depth of what I've dug into in relation to mental health, it's this... Speaking through it. Normalizing the feelings. Talking about the hard. And sharing our truth are some of the BEST and most powerful ways to move through the challenges and heal in different seasons. We are NOT meant to have it all together all the time and we certainly aren't meant to pretend like we do either. From learning new things about my son's health diagnosis, to barely sleeping through the night, to managing our house, other kids, my work, our marriage and more - I'm feeling stressed these days. And confused. And honestly - a little angry that this is our story. I'm still trying to unpack the why behind it and the deeper reasoning for some of the adversity we've been experiencing. But here's the thing - it's OK to feel all of the things I just mentioned. It's OK to say that "life is hard". And it's okay to normalize simultaneously feeling blessed and grateful alongside frustrated, sad, overwhelmed and defeated. Feelings can and WILL co-exist. My deeper prayer in sharing more of my story and being honest about the hard is that it empowers you to normalize the up and down in life too. To know that while the challenges aren't easy and there's so much we will learn through them - that at the same time, we don't have to live there. We are not stuck. Speaking through the hardships and doing our best to stay grounded in things that help us stay in forward motion and positivity are KEY tools to putting one foot in front of the other. Remember - it's OK to not be OK. Do what you need in regards to finding help, reaching out for support and finding others to lean on. Please call 988 immediately if you feel you need more resources.
