Episode 122 - The Family Court Bombings Part 2 (1980-9185)

from Weird Crap in Australia · host The Modern Meltdown

In the 1970s, the entire institution of marriage in Australia was overhauled. Gone were the days where you had to prove your significant other was beating you, drinking you out of house and home, or just plain old cheating; now, the idea of a 'no-fault' divorce was introduced, and boy, did jump on it. However, not everyone was happy. The brand new Family Court was seen as heavily favouring the women in the split in terms of money, property and custody, in spite of the husbands' wishes. Not everyone backed down and took the decisions of the court; some went so far as to threaten the judges and the court itself for its role in their perceived downfall. One man would go further than the rest, and act on his threats. Join Holly and Matthew as they tackle the topic that most couples avoid - divorce - while following this piece of historic true crime to what feels like its inevitable conclusion - 40 years in the making.Main Theme music – Kevin MacLeod"Slow Ticking Clock" – Kevin MacLeodUsed under a Creative Commons license.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weird-crap-in-australia--2968350/support.
