More than 30,000 women leave the military each year, and there are 2 million women veterans in the US and Puerto Rico, according to the Department of Veteran affairs. Women transitioning from active duty to civilian life face unique challenges, including but not limited to, a lack of community with fellow female veterans, lack of childcare assistance for single mothers, and financial instability. While many of these issues are not gender specific, many women veterans say the lack of gender specific care, privacy, and equitable facilities can be barriers to seeking treatment. Kate Watson, Founder and CEO of YourNexStage joins the podcast to discuss the challenges that women veterans face, and how YourNexStage plans to bridge the gap. YourNexStage wants to create a nationwide network of near-base women centric service centers offering hands on support, community building events, coaching, education and training, a referral network, and much more.
