Episode 123. The Scandalous Rise and Fall of Lola Montez and the Legend of Robin Hood

This week on Oy with the Terror, Danielle dives into the scandalous life of Lola Montez, the 19th-century dancer, courtesan, and femme fatale who reinvented herself into a living legend. From her Irish roots to her fiery “Spider Dance,” Lola seduced some of the most powerful men of her time, including King Ludwig I of Bavaria, whose obsession with her nearly toppled his throne. But Lola wasn’t just about scandal and seduction—she blurred the lines between performance and manipulation, politics and passion, villain and icon. Was she a dangerous con artist, or a woman simply refusing to live by society’s rules? Then, Sandra talks about the legendary Robin Hood. The legend of Robin Hood has been around for centuries. From ballads that were set in the 14 and 15th centuries to today's Robin Hood which is featured in popular movies like Disney's Robin Hood and the notorious Robin Hood Men in Tights. Although there may have been no one actually named Robin Hood, it is believed that other people inspired him. Danielle's Sources:https://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/montez-lola-4226https://biologyinsights.com/who-was-laura-montez-the-true-story-of-lola-montez/https://www.britannica.com/biography/Lola-Montezhttps://chrisenss.com/the-countess-of-landsfeldhttps://limerickarchives.com/2023/06/07/lola-montez-the-scandalous-dancer-who-toppled-a-king-and-turned-to-philanthropyhttps://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2025/08/09/from-the-archives-jack-gaioni-reveals-the-fascinating-story-of-lola-montez-the-fake-spanish-dirty-dancer-who-captured-a-kings-hearthttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lola_MontezSandra's Sources:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_depictions_of_Robin_Hood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hood. https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQTlLas6HP9M9gK59smlXYtJBhxfOz_ITnrpJXeSA7L22iy23RT
