Episode 123 | Translating the Research on Gentle Parenting and Other Parenting Strategies with Dr. Cara Goodwin, PhD
from Psych Talk · host Dr. Jessica Rabon
In today's episode of Psych Talk I chat with Dr. Cara Goodwin, licensed psychologist and parenting translator. Dr. Cara describes what it means to be a "parenting translator" and how she transitioned in to disseminating the current parenting research into digestible blog posts, social media posts, and newsletters for the average parent. We dive deep into the parenting style that has taken over social media - "gentle parenting". Dr. Cara defines what "gentle parenting is and what the research (and lack there of) says about gentle parenting. Dr. Cara describes strategies used in gentle parenting, what aspects of gentle parenting have been studied in the literature, and the outcomes of such strategies. Dr. Cara emphasizes that parenting is not one size fits all and that different children may need different parenting strategies. She also describes some misconceptions about parenting, as well as reduces the shame around not parenting "perfectly".Connect with Cara:IG: @parentingtranslatorTikTok: @parentingtranslatorWebsite: https://www.parentingtranslator.com/Sign up for Dr. Cara Goodwin's newsletter here!Ways to Work With Me:Mind Over MatterLGBTQ+ Affirming MasterclassBe a guest on my podcastResources:Anti-Racism ResourcesLGBTQ+ Affirming ResourcesThe Helping Professional's Guide to Boundary SettingConnect with Me:Follow me on IG @jessicaleighphdFollow the podcast on IG @psych.talk.podcastFollow me on TikTok @jessicaleighphdFollow me on Youtube Welcome to Group Therapy PodcastJoin my Facebook community: Grow Through What You Go ThroughIntro/Outro Music:Life of Riley by Kevin MacLeodMusic LicenseAwakening Together, Relaxing into Happiness with William Cooper, M.Th., LPCExperience Awakening....Relaxing into your Being and, therefore, Happiness.
