Episode 125 - Berberian Sound Studio *Listener's Choice*

from In The Queue - Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil · host Andrew and Phil

In this strange film by Peter Strickland, an anxious sound man is hired to work on an Italian horror movie.  That is the plot.  This is where the interpretations begin.  The sound man, played by Toby Jones is stuck with this low brow project, where people are stabbing heads of cabbage and smashing watermelons on the floor to get authentic sound effects.  The Berberian Sound Studio seems to be some kind of hell he can't escape from.  He has to deal with his ornery coworkers and difficult scream queens, not to mention increasingly disconcerting letters from his mum.  It's enough to drive a sensitive man crazy...is that what happens?  We'll let you decide.  First time guest host Paige recommended this film and Phil and Andrew are glad she did!
