Their father, Yaser Abdel Said, an Egyptian-American, was convicted of their murders in 2022. The sisters had long suffered abuse and control from their father, and their deaths were widely considered an "honor killing." On the night of the murder, Yaser lured them into his taxi under the pretense of taking them to dinner but instead shot them multiple times. Sarah managed to call 911 before dying. Yaser went on the run for 12 years before being captured by the FBI in 2020. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
