Adam Feinstein's translation of Rúben Darío's poetry is the first attempt ever of rendering the musicality and original rhyme schemes of the Nicaraguan master's verse in English. Universally recognised as the creator of the so called Modernismo movement in Spanish language, Darío changed forever the subject matter, the metre and the vocabulary of the Castilian language. "The Liberator" as Jorge Luis Borges called him. Here we discuss how best to appreciate this hugely influential but not widely read author, why he is so important and how his own very eventful life influenced his poetics. We also talked about the translator's luck when translating in verse. This podcast was recorded during a virtual presentation organised by the bilingual cultural magazine Perro Negro.
