Episode 126 | Orthorexia
from Psych Talk · host Dr. Jessica Rabon
Today is the first day of Eating Disorder Awareness Week, a week dedicated to educate the public about the realities of eating disorders and provide hope, support, and visibility to individuals and families affected by eating disorders. In today's episode of Psych Talk, I discuss orthorexia. Orthorexia is not a formal eating disorder but awareness of it has been on the rise in recent years and refers to an unhealthy obsession with being healthy. I discuss the signs and symptoms of orthorexia, potential health consequences of such, and treatment options. Additionally, as this is not a formally recognized eating disorder, I discuss the difficulty with identifying prevalence rates, as well as if orthorexia is a stand alone disorder or a subtype of another disorder.Mentioned in this Episode:AAP GuidelinesWays to Work With Me:Mind Over MatterLGBTQ+ Affirming MasterclassBe a guest on my podcastResources:Anti-Racism ResourcesLGBTQ+ Affirming ResourcesThe Helping Professional's Guide to Boundary SettingConnect with Me:Follow me on IG @jessicaleighphdFollow the podcast on IG @psych.talk.podcastFollow me on TikTok @jessicaleighphdFollow me on Youtube Welcome to Group Therapy PodcastJoin my Facebook community: Grow Through What You Go ThroughIntro/Outro Music:Life of Riley by Kevin MacLeodMusic LicenseAwakening Together, Relaxing into Happiness with William Cooper, M.Th., LPCExperience Awakening....Relaxing into your Being and, therefore, Happiness.
