Episode 127: Alana Sesow on Pursuing a Love for Running, Collegiate Experience, and Becoming More Than a Runner

from Strong Runner Chick Radio · host Megan Flanagan

Alana Sesow is a photographer, blogger and recently retired college runner from Lincoln, Nebraska. In May 2020, Alana graduated summa cum laude from Augustana University (S.D.) with bachelor's degrees in journalism and media studies. This fall, she plans on volunteer coaching cross country for her alma mater, Lincoln East High School, while continuing to impact the running community through mentorship and storytelling. Though Alana faced several athletic setbacks at Augustana, she now considers her imperfect competitive running journey to be a blessing. While navigating the ups and downs of collegiate distance running, Alana discovered a passion for sports photography, became a more empathetic teammate and learned to pursue a love for running rather than a love for being good at running. Most importantly, Alana developed a stronger relationship with God, whose Word says that she is unconditionally loved by the Creator of the universe. No amount of medals -- or lack thereof -- will change that truth. Alana is grateful to have participated in two high-achieving running programs that value their athletes as people first, runners second. She would like to thank her coaches and teammates at both Augustana University and Lincoln East High School for their constant love and support.
