Episode 129 - Progress(?) obfuscated by familiar mistakes

from Home and Away - A Sporting KC Podcast · host Drew VanderPloeg and Cody Welton

Sporting Kansas City has now extended their losing streak to 10 straight games in all competitions stretching back to last year as they lost 2-1 to DC last Saturday night.  If that sounds like a familiar introduction to you, I only had to make 2 changes to the text from last week’s intro to achieve it.  The opponent, and increasing the losing streak total by 1.  To say that things have gotten pretty rotten in the state of Missouri(and/or Kansas) would be putting it pretty mildly. There were some tactical wrinkles to this game, another debut for a new player on the roster(taking us up to 7 already this year), and an actual goal from the run of play that was pretty fun.  But unfortunately there was still a lot of sloppy play in both the offensive and defensive third that have fans pretty apoplectic about the prospects of the club this year.  It also has the members of this podcast asking questions about how this team means to score goals this year, as well as keep them out of their own.The annual GM survey by the Athletic dropped this week, with some predictable responses combined with some interesting tidbits and ideas of how MLS can improve in not only salary spending and schedule management, but also in scouting, both in sophistication as well as managing prime areas to scout in.  Also, the USMNT has dropped their roster for the final rounds of the Nations League, and there were some fun additions that may have been a bit unexpected. Finally, we will preview the Minnesota game this weekend, and discuss whether we believe SKC is effectively equipped to handle the Loons gameplan.
