Episode 13- Buffering

from Food Safety University · host Michele Pfannenstiel DVM

Buffering is when we use external things to change how we feel emotionally. It’s something we do to keep from fully experiencing our lives, to hide from reality, to procrastinate, to not show up and face the music and face ourselves and our feelings. We don’t want to face the truth of our lives because we don’t want to experience any type of negative emotion. We feel entitled to feel happiness and pleasure all of the time. We feel entitled because we have been TAUGHT that we are supposed to be happy all the time. When we aren’t happy all the time, we think something is wrong. And then we buffer to stop feeling like something is wrong in our lives. But, when you stop buffering,  you move to the 50:50 balance that most of life is. You stop using your limited mental energy on the false pleasures buffering provides and instead use it on what drives your life forward and gives it meaning.
