He is a married father of 5, who grew up in up in Oakwood Addition (Oak Addition) here in Baytown. His grandfather, E. Cartwright, was one of the authors of a 1970 list of requests given to the Goose Creek School Board by the Black students in an effort to gain some equality and to tone down the Confederate imagery at the school.
