Auri, Elodin, and Kvothe have the most awkward dinner ever. Kvothe get’s unbanned from the archives. Kvothe attends Elodin’s class, but he just doesn’t get it. Elodin gives some pretty “on the nose” demonstrations, but Kvothe can’t see it. Kvothe finds Denna in town. And later Denna finds Kvothe and the boys at the Eolian. Then she proceeds to set them up for the ultimate long con. Next week we’ll be covering chapters 20-25. Predictions: * Denna’s questioning the boys about magic is some kind of work that she is doing for Master Ash. I suspect it was an attempt to size up Kvothe and to report back exactly what he is capable of. * Her “drawing” on the table with her finger is some kind of mnemonic device to help her remember everything. It could also be some kind of actual magic that she is caster herself, like some kind of temporary sygaldry. * I suspect that Denna knows some kind of magic, and I suspect that it is some kind of magic that isn’t taught at the University. * The chapter where Denna is talking about being a grifter is to highlight that Denna is playing Kvothe is a long con. * Denna’s shaking her hand and fiddling with her missing ring was not absent minded. She did that on purpose to get Kvothe to ask about it. * This “ring issue” is going to cause Kvothe to have to leave the University.
