What's up everyone welcome back to the daily pfav. This is episode 131 for Tuesday October 9th 2018 It's 8 27 p.m. Here on the east coast and I cannot believe I completely forgot to do the podcast two days ago Because I said last week I was going to take a little day trip to go shoot something on my photography bucket list And I did just that this past Sunday drove all the way to Chantilly, Virginia and Shot to space shuttle discovery and I am and have always been a huge Lover of our space program ever since I was a little kid You know the first space shuttle launch on April 12th 1981 that was STS 1 and then STS 2 Which was also space shuttle Columbia my father took me to see that launch He got somehow got a VIP pass from NASA and we were on Merritt Island three miles directly You know ahead of the shuttle watching it and I can just remember from that moment on I was hooked And then when that shuttle launch ended those two astronauts actually did like some kind of a dinner Press tour and my dad took me to that when they came to Pittsburgh again All is a ten year old little boy and got to meet those two astronauts And then he took me to another Columbia launch and then he took me to see STS 6 Which was the first space shuttle challenger launch and I can just always remember being a huge Nut job for the space shuttle watched all the launches This is why I have direct TV today because they have NASA TV They have a whole channel dedicated to NASA and a number of years ago I actually won a Twitter contest and got to go to Washington DC to NASA headquarters and meet the crew of the last space shuttle launch and that was a lot of fun So you guys I think I've made the point here. I'm a nut for the space shuttle So in 2012 whenever the space shuttle program retired NASA sent all the space shuttles to be on display one of them went to Chantilly That's Discovery space shuttle Atlantis went to the Kennedy Space Center space shuttle Endeavor went to I think somewhere out in California and then the original prototype space shuttle enterprise is in New York City on the aircraft carrier That sits in New York Harbor and of course you guys know NASA lost Columbia and Challenger the two that I got to see as a small child In two tragic accidents, you know throughout the duration of the space program So drove to Chantilly walk into this gigantic hangar and there's just hundreds and hundreds of vintage airplanes Modern day all the way back to World War one just on display But and again, I'll be honestly I didn't care all I wanted to do was see the space shuttle and you walk into the back hanger Man and there it is just sitting there in all of its glory and I just stood there of course I'm crying like a child that I am and Then I got settled into doing you know the photography of it that I wanted to do and probably spent 45 minutes doing Hour just kind of walking around the shuttle looking at it taking some detailed shots of it because all of these pictures are going to be in my Second book that I'm working on and so the pictures look great and amazing I threw a black and white one up on my private Facebook page Instagram and I put a color one up on my paulfalfillio photography Facebook page So if you haven't seen those yet jump over there and take a look at them But if you want to see all the other ones that I talk I am going to include a bunch of them in my new book That should be out in time for the holidays sometime in December But it was a tremendous day to go down there and shoot this thing and you know I was watching a bunch of other you know amateur photographers and you know it looked like a few other pro photographers were there By the dozens and you know this poor one guy just standing there and he just he didn't want anybody to be in his picture at all And it's like you know first of all the Smithsonian.

It's free to get in and But so I mean you get it There's a lot of people there and I could just hear this guy talking to whoever he was with saying You know, I'm waiting to take this picture when everyone gets out of the way and it's like dude No one's getting out of the way in my opinion You need the people in these pictures because it shows the scale it shows the true size of The space shuttle compared to a human being and that's that's why I even went up on the catwalk and took the picture that I posted Down the hallway so that you could really see the size of this thing compared to people and what it looks like It's it's just massive and I'll be honest with you Stand there and look at this thing and wonder how in the heck did this thing ever fly because it looks like it's covered with some kind of a Fabric because when I was looking at the pictures when I was editing them It does it looks like it's covered with some kind of a fabric and you can see seams that are sewn and it just it doesn't look like You know like an aircraft like that aircraft aluminum that you see on a on a commercial jetliner whenever you're getting on board It definitely looks soft and I don't know It's just just kind of mind-blowing to see it and so now I want to do a little more research and try to look it up So I want to see what the heck this thing's made of now because it fascinates me But nevertheless, that's it so I just want to do that quick little shout out podcast to the spatial discovery in NASA a lot of fun I'd urge all of you if you're looking for a day trip go down there. It's um right beside Dallas Airport I know there's another Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in DC, but this this particular building. It's the Advar Hazy Center is what it's called and it's the Air and Space Museum Annex so it's a second totally separate building from the Air and Space Museum that you know in Washington DC But like I said, it's free to get in 15 bucks to park They have a great gift shop and even better news. They have a McDonald's inside So I'm gonna leave it right there for tonight 4 1 2 7 0 1 4 3 2 3 paul Foundley to a podcast calm as always.

Thanks for listening
