Episode 132: Beautifully Broken - finding beauty and healing through suffering with Randy Hartley

from Living Wholehearted Podcast With Jeff and Terra · host Terra & Jeff Mattson - Living Wholehearted

One of the greatest questions for many is, “If God is a loving God, why is there so much suffering in the world?” Though we would love to answer this question in a 30 minute episode and set the record straight for us all…this is a complex question that many more qualified individuals have tried to explain, including C.S. Lewis, Tim Keller, and Max Lucado. Instead, we are going to look at suffering from a different angle and process the truth lived out by so many: suffering is not the end of the story.   In episode 132, Terra Mattson sits with Randy Hartly as he recounts the moment he found out his daughter was molested and the days he witnessed forgiveness in the face of the Rwandan victims.  The Rwandan Genocide is one of the worst examples of evil in human history. Almost one million people were slaughtered in 100 days because a population was vilified, demonized and dehumanized over an extended period without sufficient push-back from what was likely a silent majority. Suffering happens on many levels, individually and corporately.  This episode will not only bring hope to you, in whatever story you are living, but maybe give you the resources you need to walk with others going through such pain.   Randy Hartley lives in Nashville, Tennessee, where he has been a financial planner for thirty-eight years. Randy also serves as Chairman of Legacy Mission Village, the refugee ministry founded by William and Ebralie Mwizerwa. He and his wife, Darla, have three children—Alyssa, Andrea, and Nate. Randy was the executive producer for the film Beautifully Broken, which was released in 2018. He has now written a memoir called Beautifully Broken: The Story of Two Fathers Fighting to Save Their Families and the Unlikely Journey That Changed Them Both (Fedd Books, 3/29). Beautifully Broken not only tells the Hartley family’s story, but recounts the Mwizerwa family’s escape from the genocide in Rwanda and their journey to Nashville, before the two families ever met. With the help of 18-time New York Times best-selling author Ken Abraham, Randy and William Mwizerwa share the story that brought their families together.   The story isn't over.
