Your Daily Prayer 🙏🏾 1 Samuel 27:7 Your mistakes don’t make you. FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT ACTION: KINDNESS Send flowers or a handwritten card to someone grieving. Today’s daily devotional is based on David making the terrible mistake of uniting with the Philistines and using them as a shield against Saul. STORY Bible in a Year: David in Ziklag Scripture "And David inquired of the Lord, ‘Shall I pursue after this band? Shall I overtake them?’ He answered him, ‘Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue.’” 1 Samuel 30:8 Have you ever made a terrible mistake out of desperation? You’re not alone. We’ve all had our backs against the wall. We’ve made bad calls. But what matters most is how we respond to those failures. In this episode of Bible in a Year, David makes a terrible mistake. He unites with the Philistines and uses them as a shield against Saul. He cons the king of Gath into letting them settle in Ziklag. At first, it seems like a good partnership. David raids nearby villages for King Achish, pretending the spoils are from Israel. But really, he is raiding camps from Israel’s enemies. In David’s mind, he’s killing two birds with one stone. He’s protecting Israel while gaining an ally. But David has befriended the enemy. You can’t play with fire and not expect to get burned. David’s lies catch up to him, and he’s eventually forced to march against Israel. Lucky for him, God bails him out. But David’s neglect came at a cost: the women and children in his community were kidnapped. David’s men were furious at him. David was furious at himself. He could have given up. He could have let his failure anchor him to the floor. But we aren’t defined by our mistakes. Our inner strength is revealed when we pick ourselves back up and press forward. David marches alone to retrieve his people. His men followed, and together they triumphed. Your mistakes don’t define you. Get up. Press forward. Step into God’s calling. REFLECTION Consider your life right now. Are there any decisions you’ve made out of desperation that are costing you today? You don’t have to be stuck in those decisions. Don’t let your past keep you from your future. Pick yourself up and choose to press forward today. Ask God for what’s next, and confidently walk forward. PRAYER And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months. 1 SAMUEL 27:7 Dear Lord, as a tree finds its strength to endure from its roots, I too will find my strength in the depths of my roots and from the ground I choose to grow in. In moments of loneliness, give me the resolve and strength to remain planted in the place You’ve called me to. I will not abandon my values and morals to partner with others who offer protection and gain at the cost of my character and right to stand with You. I will not become comfortable with compromise as David and his men did during their season of loneliness in 1 Samuel 28. Because I am new and transformed, I will instead take on the latter spirit of David and fight for what is mine! I will retake and regain what the enemy has stolen from me! Through Your power God, I will be able to reclaim my land, my position and all that belongs to me, my family, and my future. I declare that compromise is not an option! In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏🏾Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jarvis-kingston--1517583/support.Repent and Get Baptized
