We so enjoyed our conversation with Dr. Matthew Sedgley ("Sedge"), MD, who shared a lot of information on injury prevention and managing heat/humidity while racing. Dr. Sedgley is a physician specializing in sports medicine. He is fellowship trained in both family medicine and sports medicine. His special interests include musculoskeletal injuries, evaluation of non-surgical orthopedic problems, and concussions. He is a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles, a consultant for the Ravens, and serves on the medical team for the Boston Marathon, the Baltimore Marathon and the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. Dr. Sedgley's special interests include working with runners, triathletes, and bicyclists. Dr. Sedgley is also trained in sports medicine ultrasound. Non-operative care for orthopedic concerns and acute sports injuries are his primary focus. A 1996 graduate of the University of Maryland, Dr. Sedgley earned his doctor of medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2000 before completing an internship and residency in family practice at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Riverside Campus. He also completed his fellowship at the University of Maryland.
