Episode 14 - The Vegan Sniper's Anti-Poaching Initiative | Damien Mander

from SANUSPLANET Podcast · host Magdalena Gschnitzer

Welcome to the SANUSPLANET Podcast!Did you know, that exactly those ecosystems that balance our climate and make life on earth possible in the first place are under threat? If we do nothing and do not act sufficiently, millions of species risk extinction in our lifetime. Many human interventions can damage ecosystems around the world, but poaching in particular threatens a number of species, even those protected in national parks or wildlife reserves. Poaching nowadays is usually done purely for profit, resulting in the population of many animals being drastically decimated. Poached animals and animal parts are sold illegally on the black market. How do you feel when hearing that rhinos and elephants are about to go extinct? These species have long been the target of poaching, mainly for the horn of a rhino, as well as for the ivory of an elephant tusk, as those are fetching enormous sums on the black market. In our new podcast episode of the SANUSPLANET Podcast, Maggy interviews the founder of the International Anti-Poaching Foundation IAPF, Damien Mander. Founded in 2009, this foundation has transformed a traditionally adversarial approach to conservation into an innovative, empowering and gender-sensitive model for protecting wildlife and habitats. Damien's life change is a role model for Maggy, as his transformation highlights how much we humans can change our lives if only we care enough about the cause. Damien was an Australian Sniper for the Special Forces who became a vegan activist through an emotional connection with the animals of Africa. An conversation between one of the most well-known anti-poaching activists in the world and Magdalena Gschnitzer. You can support the IAPF!
