This week’s TRANSMUSIC AIRWAVES (#75) marks the return of my bi-monthly special feature “Character Study,” an in depth look at bands/individuals that have had a significant influence on contemporary music. On today’s editiona look at “CARAVAN and Other Tales From Canterbury,” an exploration into theorigin and history of one of the Canterbury Scene’s musical anchor’s, Caravanand the many artists that emerged from under it’s wings. Music spanningCaravan’s decades of work will be heard beginning with the groups origin in thelegendary band The Wilde Flowers and the subsequent creation of other bands byit’s members. In addition to hearing music from Caravan, other Canterburystalwarts to be played include Delivery, Matching Mole, Hatfield and the North,National Health, and Camel. Solo material from Richard Sinclair, John G. Perry,and Geoffrey Richardson will be heard as well. This feature willair during the second and third hour of today’s show. During the first hourcuts from the latest albums from Eno & Hyde (“High Life”), Damon Albarn,Camper Van Beethoven, and Ray LaMontagne along with other music will be played.
