She is an influential participant  from the underground comix movement and has also written and drawn many mainstream comics including Wonder Woman. She is a member of the Will Eisner Hall of Fame. She designed the costume for the iconic Vampirella. She has written a number of books about female cartoonists including her latest Flapper Queens: Women Cartoonists of the Jazz Age.
