God's voice affirmed Jesus' divine sonship, and after fasting for forty days, Jesus resisted Satan's temptations, demonstrating His faithfulness and strength. STORY Bible in a Year: Baptism and Temptation Scripture And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17 Have you ever faced a pivotal moment that shaped your future? Jesus experienced such a moment when He was baptized by John the Baptist. As Jesus rose from the waters of the Jordan, the heavens opened, and God's voice proclaimed, "This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased." This divine affirmation marked the beginning of Jesus' public ministry, signaling His unique role in God's plan of salvation. How do you respond to God’s calling in your life? John the Baptist, despite his initial hesitation, obeyed Jesus' request to be baptized. His obedience allowed God's glory to be revealed in a profound way. Similarly, when we step out in faith and obedience, we open the door for God to work through us. What temptations challenge your faith and resolve? Immediately after His baptism, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where He fasted for forty days and faced intense temptations from Satan. Each temptation was a test of His trust in God's provision, protection, and plan. Jesus' unwavering reliance on God's word and His rejection of Satan's offers serve as a powerful example of steadfast faith. How can you strengthen your resolve against temptation? Jesus' responses to Satan were rooted in Scripture, highlighting the importance of knowing and meditating on God's word. In times of trial, we too can draw strength from God's promises, resisting the allure of quick fixes or worldly solutions. REFLECTION Reflect on your own moments of divine calling and the challenges that followed. Are there areas where you need to trust more in God’s provision and protection? This week, focus on strengthening your spiritual discipline through prayer, fasting, and studying Scripture. Follow Jesus' example by standing firm against temptations with the truth of God's word. FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT ACTION: SELF-CONTROL Limit your screen time by 30 minutes today and spend that time in prayer or reflection. PRAYER And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. MARK 1:11 As I step into my purpose I thank You that, like Jesus, I am being baptized into my new life and mission here on earth. Before I even begin, I thank You that also like Jesus, You have affirmed and validated me as Your Child. With my identity secured, I know that even as I walk through the deserts of temptation You are with me and have equipped me to overcome the lies of Satan. When I am tempted with comfort instead of commitment I will remind Satan of Your Word and command him to flee. When Satan tries to get me to doubt my identity I will remind him that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. When Satan tempts me with the luxury and fame of this world I will remind him that the source of my fulfillment comes from You Lord and that it is You who elevates me, and I will command him to flee! I thank You Lord that through Your word I have supernatural steadfastness and resolve. Satan has no authority over my life, and through the Life and death of Jesus I have complete victory!
