Dr. M M Padmakumar (PK) is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Media Studies at CHRIST University, Bangalore, India. He is also the Director of the Centre for Peace Praxis at the University. Padmakumar has been a member of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences academia for the past 18 years. He holds masters degrees in English Literature and Mass Communication. He has worked as a journalist with Deccan Chronicle, a news daily in India. His doctoral thesis was on the “Cultural Politics of Sports and Nationalism in Indian Popular Cinema.” He offers courses on Contemporary India, Strategic Storytelling, Ecology and Media Discourses, Environmental Journalism, etc. He has been promoting an academia-society interface by conducting conferences, workshops and field visits on areas related to ecology, interfaith dialogue, media literacy and peace. He is a peace facilitator at the Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute, Davao, Philippines, and offers them courses during the summer, related to different aspects of peace. He believes in biocentric egalitarianism.
