Episode 149: Should Christians Ever Have Sympathy for Child Abusers?

from The Speaking Out on Sex Abuse Podcast · host Jimmy and Clara Hinton

Christianity Today International did a survey of 3,000 church leaders and members in 2010, where they found that 80% of respondents believe that sex offenders who have paid their dues in the legal system should be welcomed into the church. Even with the attention #MeToo and #ChurchToo have gotten, churches are still not hesitant to welcome abusers into the fold, often accompanied with secret agreements between church leaders and the offenders. Is it our duty as Christians to welcome abusers into the church? Should we minister to them? We unpack these questions in this episode and explain why we think this is both bad policy and poses a very real danger to innocent children.
