What's up everyone welcome back to the daily PFAB this is episode 149 for Friday January 18th 2019 It's 6 45 p.m. Here on the east coast and time is definitely running out for everyone that is in the path of this winter storm That's about to hit here probably in the next 15 hours or so and I sincerely hope that all of you listening have taken some kind of precautionary planning Tips and advice and done something to get yourselves your vehicles your homes ready because this is going to be an absolutely nasty nasty Winter weather event here on Saturday and Sunday specifically if you're in western, Pennsylvania I was on a national weather service webinar today and also spent many many hours talking with Galman about this storm and there is this crazy line that literally you can draw right across Allegheny County where I live and Places to the north of that are gonna get pummeled with snow and everyone to the south of that It looks like is gonna get hit by this just nasty mix of rain sleep freezing rain ice Just this slop that's gonna cause a big big headache for thousands and thousands of people and then eventually by Sunday morning This all turns to snow and everyone four to nine inches of snow is what's expected So again, it's not that it's the total amount of snow is something that we can't you know take care of and handle because we certainly had those amounts Before but it's just gonna be how this storm gets delivered to everyone here in western PA in the form of this this very harsh mix of winter precipitation and then snow is what's gonna be the big big problem and Really this right probably disrupt a lot of infrastructure and make it very inconvenient for a lot of people So again, I hope that everybody has you know should be getting very close to closing out their emergency plan with how they're going to Ride this storm out and again if you have not started an emergency plan like I said time is definitely running out You have about 15 hours to get to the store and get some stuff and you know Make sure that you have everything you need because we definitely do not want anybody out on the roads if you don't have to be Saturday and into Sunday because we see it every time we have these kinds of storms We have people out on the roads and just running to do small things like going to get fast food or running to Walmart because they need This or that and it's stuff that could have been purchased and gotten beforehand But for whatever reasons they just don't so that's why we talk about this stuff all the time We put these social media posts out there warning everybody the true dangers of these types of storms And we take it serious and we want you to take it serious too And so a little bit of behind the scenes of what I've been doing to get ready for this storm If you follow me on social media You saw probably a month or two ago We put out the white oak burrow office of emergency management Twitter page and so that's alive and well We've been putting information into that to get that out there to the people on Twitter And then just today I created the same white oak burrow office of emergency management Facebook page and put that out there for everyone You know in the half a day that it's been out on Facebook got over 200 some people and you know Obviously, I'll be happy when that numbers in the several thousands because we have close to 9,000 residents that live in our community That we want to be able to deliver official messages to and be able to give important updates because today I spoke with the police chief to get a report on how they're going to be staffed And then I spoke with our public works director and found out some important tips that they wanted the residents to know And so again, I was able to put that information on to those social media outlets and get that out there to everybody So again, if you're on social media and specifically Western PA find those two pages They're both at ready white oak or the handles and you can find us on Twitter and Facebook And you'll be able to follow along with everything that we're gonna be putting out there and doing some behind the scenes stuff as well While we are operating in snow mode here on Saturday. So and also again As far as the personal preparations go I went to Costco today and I got a box of uncrustables because to me that's emergency management fuel I love those things. I think they're great It's just gonna be for the next 24 36 hours grab and go type of food like the little ramen noodle cups with hot water because I'm just not gonna have time to eat real meals and cook real meals or go out and get real meals because we're literally gonna be awake for 36 hours Trying to mitigate and manage this storm with everything that we're gonna be doing And I know Gellman and I and one of our deputy chiefs will be operating at our emergency operation center tomorrow and all through the night and into Sunday So that's just how it's going to be and the emergency management world is such a great unique community I have friends and emergency management all over the state and one of my good friends Amy from Chester County Pennsylvania emergency management sent me a very nice email today with some stuff and some tips to put out on social media and Some reminders of things that we need to do so I definitely appreciate that so Amy if you are listening Thank you very much, and she lives out in QVC land my favorite part of Pennsylvania How awesome is that like QVC is in her backyard and you guys have heard me talk about my QVC obsession on many many episodes and So yeah, so I definitely appreciate that help as well And again like I said time is running out There's anything that anybody needs please go out and get it tonight because again this thing is gonna be ugly It's going to be nasty.
This is not a hype type scenario The state of our I'm sorry the governor of the state of Pennsylvania earlier this evening actually earlier this afternoon already declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm Which will allow resources to be freed up and assistance Trying to get the assistance going in place and get it ready for for people that need it ahead of the storm Immediately in the aftermath of the storm without having to jump through all the political red tape So again, this is a serious serious storm and use these hours wisely to do everything you need to do and And you know, that's uh, that's pretty much all I have to say Sorry, I was holding in a cough for like five minutes and it just finally had to come out So I apologize for that But anyway, so I'm gonna wrap things up because there are still a few more little things I need to do and get ready for for tomorrow So I'm just gonna leave it right there for one two seven oh one four three two three is the show call in number Paul Valvolito podcast calm. Thanks for listening
