Episode 15: Love Island US, Hurricane Huda, and Watching a BPD Crashout on Reality TV

from No Boundaries: Black Girl Magic Edition with Anousha Nzume · host Anousha Nzume

Huda’s time on Love Island USA has brought to light some behaviors that make up what we now know as BPD. From the cursing, the tantrums, and the 0-100 behavior, Huda is exhibiting many of the signs that she may be living with Borderline Personality Disorder. And while BPD diagnoses have only recently entered the mainstream, many people have been living with BPD for a long time, sometimes their entire lives. We would know, Anousha’s mother has been living with BPD for as long as she can remember. Which is why it’s so important to shed light on this disorder while Huda is at the top of everyone’s mind. This disorder affects behaviors and thought processes differently than a neurotypical person (someone without a mental health disorder or illness) does. Huda believes that her cursing, tantrums, and twisting of the truth are completely justified. And while we are not therapists, and we have no authority on how to diagnose her, we’d like to take this opportunity to shed light on these behaviors, why she’s acting like this, and how you can talk to someone in your life who acts like Huda does. In this week’s episode, we’re talking about all things Love Island USA, Hurricane Huda, and what it’s been like to watch multiple BPD crashouts on a reality TV show. Huda can get on our nerves. She lashes out at the people she loves and cries over every little thing. But there is a reason she acts the way she does. And if you, or someone you know, acts like Huda, you’re going to want to know about the why so you can have better relationships with your loved ones. Enjoy!
